Lot's going on since last i shared here...
i live in a faily boring location, where not much changes, and that's how the people here like it which is good for them, but i was very glad that i had 3 of my outta town supa close friends (that use to live here) visit...all in 2 weeks!! it was a bit crazy, but good crazy
still working on the 365 photography project, though i haven't been posting my pics for over a month now, because my computer is sick, the great 'reformation' is about to go down, been dragging my feet for about a yr, and now within the last couple months, my computer has told me in so many errors that enough is enough. same with my laptop which i did just this last weekend, but alas i don't have backups for almost all my programs, so the process continues slowly but surely.
I also ransacked my 2nd bedroom/craft room/storage-catchall room, and it is now just a craft room, and once i give away some of the mats that i have been salvaging over the past 10 yrs or so, it will also double as a spare bedroom, for travelers, merrymakers and the like
Possibly the most exciting happening in the past few months is that i had my work shown in a gallery for the first time!! The show was called "Behind Closed Eyes" showcase of local visionary artists @ the Des Moines Social Club and it was also my friend Jeff's first time curating a show for his 35th b-day
I showed 4 pieces and i sold 3 of them, 2 the night of the opening, and the 3rd within the next 3 days!! I plan to use the (very small) amount of money i made to order some chain maille supplies!!
Now, i am a bit conflicted about the sale of my work & could use some advice. I sold framed prints & had the lowest priced pieces by far, but i was the only one selling prints, all the other work was 'one of a kind' which i believe should be priced higher. Also, i want to make art more accessible to people of my income lvl, however i'm worried about upsetting other artists, and am use to giving my work away for free, i wasn't even going to try and sell them to begin with, Jeff had to talk me into it
Also made a new tapestry for a regional burner event that i go to every yr. Our camp theme was 'Groovitational Pull' so i painted Shiva hooping a solar system in UV paint on black fabric. Was also inspired by a new friend to paint a glass head to go with an group of glass heads she's been working on for a while. we mounted them in milkcrates with tinfoil, and put strings of christmas lights in the heads, put a color changing lightbulb in the one i did. I'm thinking about frosting the glass on the inside to difuse the light more, so i gotta somehow get my hands on a sandblaster.
Working on salvaging leather, checking thriftstores for outdated leather clothing that most likely no one will wear again, but i'm realizing that 2nd hand quality leather is hard to come by. Will just have to keep looking
Also rediscovered canoeing few weeks ago, really REALLY wish i'd had my camera with me at the time, however was not about to risk it, so i think i should invest in a waterproof camera of some kind cause i also always wanna go take pictures in the rain! We recently had a some really wicked weather in the are, in one direction was a rainbow, to the right of that was crazy stormclouds with lightning and to the left of that was the edge of the storm at sunset, the sky looked like it was on fire! it was AMAZING!!! it's been raining a lot actually, but thankfully no flooding.
Found a brass bell for my altar, been looking for a while now, i love bells!!
As soon as my computers are back in working order, i will post pics of what i have been up to this past few months, and will visit
Meow
